Angus Macfadyen Chanel Swim 2010

Welcome to Angus Macfadyen's Channel swim site, one of the best channel swim sites around!

  !! SWIM CANCELLED !!

As of one hour ago, I took the decision to cancel my Channel swim that was planned for tomorrow. This is as a result of an increase in my body's temperature; following on from an infection that I picked up last weekend, whilst training in the sea off Brighton.

The antibiotic treatment in only half way to working. I am not fit to swim the Channel, which requires a high level of fitness.

I'm sure that many of you will be disappointed to hear this news, I am
devastated to telling you, and to be missing a near perfect weather
slot...

...This is in the very nature of Channel swimming, a waiting game, don't loose heart, I will swim...I want this very, very much

A question...

Have you ever had to fight for water.......drinking water?

Imagine if you will you've just walked for two hours in the searing heat to the nearest water bore hole. When you arrive you will wait for a further half an hour, in a queue, for your days supply of water.......you fill your leaky water container and start the long hot journey back to your home.....your family have been waiting all the while, two boys aged one and five, they are at home - alone - Your five year old son is looking after your baby, your baby is sick with diarrhoea. Diarrhoea is one of the worlds biggest killers........
...........Now try to imagine this - the water you have trekked for so far, for so long to fetch, will do you and your family more harm than good - this water is contaminated.

This is an example that I personally witnessed in Africa, this is the reality for many, each and every day.

What to do?

We can bring fresh water to these communities, a clean, reliable source of water, that life giving liquid we all take so much for granted. I want to raise fourteen thousand pounds, ambitious I know. Is three year's of my life worth a few thousand pounds? Absolutely!

To find out how you can help and for information about my charity 'The Lawrences Roundbout Well Appeal' - Please take just a few more minutes of your time, to watch the short film on the 'sponsor' page.
